Everyone is experiencing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, in their leadership right now. V.U.C.A is real and increases the need for resilient leadership.
On today's episode, Alan and his brother J.R. have a great discussion about resiliency and several simple things we all need right now in order to lead well for the long haul.
About J.R.
Dr. J.R. Briggs possesses four passions: Following Jesus, equipping and investing in hungry kingdom leaders, growing fruit on other people’s trees, and creating good kingdom mischief. In short, his calling is to partner with people who are called to follow Jesus while they lead others.
In 2011 he started Kairos Partnerships, an organization committed to serving hungry kingdom leaders through leadership coaching, consulting, speaking, teaching, equipping, and writing.
For more than 15 years, J.R. served in pastoral roles in mega-churches, church plants, and house church networks. Since starting Kairos Partnerships, he has served and invested in pastors and kingdom leaders in over 40 denominations throughout 28 states and Canada.
In addition to pastors and church planters, he has also invested in a wide variety of leaders, including business owners, U.S. Olympic athletes, university administrators, athletic directors, coaches, and attorneys.
He is an affiliate faculty member in practical theology at Missio Seminary and guest instructor at Friends University in the Masters of Arts in Spiritual Formation program. He has guest lectured, taught, and spoken at over a dozen colleges, universities, and seminaries around the U.S.
He also serves as the Director of Leadership & Congregational Formation for The Ecclesia Network and as a National Trainer and Strategist for Fresh Expressions U.S.
He has written or co-written ten books and Bible studies on a wide variety of topics and contributed to The Abide Bible. He has also published articles in Christianity Today, Huffington Post, Preaching Today, American Bible Society, N.T. Wright Online, Missio Alliance, Relevant Magazine, Outreach Magazine and Faith & Leadership, among others (see full list here).

He’s also the host of the Resilient Leaders podcast, a twice-weekly podcast of brief thoughts on why resilience is crucial in leading in the new reality.
He serves on the board of Jerusalem University College, an academic institution which offers short-term study programs, semester study abroad opportunities, and a Masters of Arts program right on Mt. Zion.

The speed and pace at which many of us live and lead is exhausting. When we are constantly in a hurried state, how do we hear from God?
On today's episode, Alan sits down with Carlos Whittaker for a great conversation about Carlos's new book Enter Wild and how to have a very vibrant life with God.
About Carlos
Carlos Whittaker is a People's Choice Award winner, a former recording artist signed to a major label, a social media maven, and currently spends the majority of his time writing books and speaking on stages around the world. It really began when the Whittaker's found their family in America's spotlight with appearances on shows like CBS Early Morning, The Today Show, and more when their viral video "Single Ladies Devastation" went viral. But for Carlos, his wife Heather, and their three children, this viral moment was just a snapshot of the bigger picture.
Currently reigning at nearly 7 million views, it's hard to believe that the overnight success of Carlos' son's "Single Ladies Devastation" on YouTube was a complete accident.
"I remember putting the video on YouTube that night and not thinking much about it," recalls Carlos. "The next morning my phone was blowing up with calls from all these national outlets asking me if I was the horrible father in the YouTube video."
But That Was Just The Spark
"Our family has experienced our share of moments both big and small. What we've learned is that every single one has played a pinnacle part in our lives. Each moment has built on to the next one and when we take a step back we see this incredible canvas that has been woven together."
The release of "Moment Maker" marked Carlos' debut as an author, but his current book "Kill The Spider" has taken Carlos' tribe into the deeper parts of their souls. In his newest book Carlos helps people identify, locate, corner, and kill the spiders that are plaguing their lives. "My dad once told me that I must stop cleaning to cobwebs in my life and kill the spider", Carlos recalls. "This was a massive shift in my soul that began my journey towards being truly centered in my life."
As an adult, Carlos and his wife Heather moved from California back to Atlanta where he joined the team at Andy Stanley's Buckhead Church. There, Carlos continued to apply 'moment making' into his everyday life, blogging about his experiences and recruiting his family and friends along the way. In 2009 Carlos signed a recording deal with Integrity Music and moved his family to Nashville TN. It was in Nashville where Carlos decided to make the shift from writing music to writing books. And from singing on stages to speaking on stages.
Currently, Carlos is regularly teaching at churches and conferences worldwide. Including Catalyst Conference, Embrace Church, FreshLife Church, and many more.
